Proj. Subtle is a unique deck of playing cards I designed and developed targeting those who participate in the skill-based hobby, 'cardistry'. Cardistry is a hobby that involves the manipulation (or shuffling) of playing cards in interesting and creative ways. Having started practising cardistry back in primary school, it had always been a dream of mine to produce my own deck of cards. I am proud to have achieved this goal.
After marketing and promoting the product via social media, the Kickstarter project was launched in July 2018. In the 30-day period, it was successfully funded with over $10,000 in sales pledged from over 250 customers. 1500 units were produced for Kickstarter backers and wholesale.
The design process was very involved as the deck is fully custom, including the tuck box, back design and face cards. All aspects of the design aim to amplify the appearance of different types of movements and constructions. Added elements to the face cards and the contrasting elements on the back design contribute to achieving this.
